Fleet Manager

About the role

Our client in Kempton Park, Gauteng is looking for an experienced Fleet Manager to lead and optimise fleet operations in a fast‑paced, overland tourism environment. You will be responsible for maintaining a fleet of 4x4 vehicles and associated off‑road equipment, ensuring safety, reliability and compliance across South Africa and neighbouring countries.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enforce preventative maintenance schedules for 4x4 vehicles and specialised camping gear.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑rental inspections, ensuring cleanliness, safety and mechanical soundness.
• Manage accessory checks, including dual‑battery systems, fridges, rooftop tents, recovery gear and long‑range fuel tanks.
• Coordinate remote support and incident management for breakdowns or accidents in remote areas across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
• Maintain relationships with regional mechanics, towing services and panel beaters.
• Ensure legal roadworthiness and compliance with national vehicle regulations.

Required profile

• 5+ years of fleet operations experience, with at least 3 years in car rental or overland/4x4 tourism.
• Diploma or degree in Transport Management, Logistics or Supply Chain (advantageous).
• Valid South African Code EB or EC1 driver’s licence and a passport for cross‑border emergencies.
• Proven ability to work under high‑pressure conditions and after‑hours client emergencies.
• Strong negotiation and supplier‑management capabilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail in vehicle documentation processes.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Hands‑on experience with telematics and fleet‑management platforms.
• Technical knowledge of 4x4 vehicle mechanics.
• Familiarity with off‑road accessories and equipment.
