Fitter Manager

About the role

The company is a well‑established industrial and manufacturing operation in Cape Town seeking an experienced Fitter Manager. The role leads the mechanical maintenance function, ensuring plant equipment runs safely, efficiently and with minimal downtime in a busy production environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day activities of the Fitters / Mechanical Maintenance team.
• Plan, schedule and drive preventative and routine maintenance programmes.
• Coordinate mechanical breakdowns, urgent repairs and support fault‑finding investigations.
• Monitor workmanship, maintenance quality and team productivity.
• Oversee workshop operations, resource utilisation and spares management.
• Maintain compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
• Handle staff attendance, overtime allocation and departmental administration.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• Trade‑tested Mechanical Fitter (Red Seal) or equivalent higher qualification.
• Minimum 10 years experience in heavy industrial/manufacturing plant maintenance.
• At least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Physically fit, able to work at heights and in confined spaces, with a valid driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Experience with planned and preventative maintenance systems.
• Proficiency in CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
• Good knowledge of hydraulics.
• Computer literacy – Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
