Financial Services Lawyer – Markets & Derivatives (Senior Associate)

About the role

SATIC, a delivery centre for PwC Legal UK, is seeking a Senior Associate to join its South African team. The role focuses on markets and derivatives work, providing specialist legal advice, drafting and negotiating complex agreements, and supporting technology‑enabled contract workflows for PwC clients.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate, review and assess a wide range of markets and derivatives documents, including ISDA Master Agreements, Master Repurchase Agreements, Securities Lending Agreements, Futures Trading Agreements, and Clearing or Prime Brokerage Agreements.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert on markets and derivatives, applying industry knowledge to PwC engagements.
• Provide knowledge‑sharing, training and tailored SME support to colleagues across the PwC network.
• Support clients in negotiating and executing transactions and develop contract negotiation playbooks.
• Leverage technology‑enabled workflows to streamline contract preparation, negotiation and execution.
• Contribute to business development by building referral networks within PwC and cultivating direct client relationships.

Required profile

• Qualified and admitted attorney in South Africa or an equivalent common‑law jurisdiction.
• Excellent academic background.
• 3 + years post‑qualification experience in financial services and transactional work, either in‑house at a bank/financial institution or at a leading law firm.
• Strong working knowledge of market‑practice derivatives agreements.

Required skills

• Experience with ISDA Master Agreements, Master Repurchase Agreements, Securities Lending Agreements, Futures Trading Agreements, and Clearing/Prime Brokerage Agreements.
• Ability to provide specialist advice on markets and derivatives transactions.
