Legal Compliance Specialist (Legal Counsel)

About the role

We are looking for a Legal Compliance Specialist (Legal Counsel) to join SANY South Africa in Johannesburg. The role provides comprehensive in‑house legal and compliance support across Southern Africa, focusing on South African legislation and cross‑border legal matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial and operational matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including supplier, customer, service and employment contracts.
• Support corporate governance activities such as board resolutions, policies and internal controls.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and compliance risks with commercially sound advice.
• Ensure compliance with South African laws (Companies Act, POPIA, labour legislation) and relevant industry regulations.
• Coordinate compliance requirements across other Southern African jurisdictions with external advisors.
• Develop, implement and monitor internal compliance frameworks, policies and procedures.
• Conduct compliance reviews, internal audits and address gaps.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and manage relationships with external counsel.
• Oversee external counsel across multiple jurisdictions to control risk and costs.
• Support dispute resolution, claims management and litigation coordination.
• Maintain legal and compliance registers, records and reporting dashboards.
• Deliver compliance training and awareness initiatives to internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
• Admission as an Attorney.
• 3‑5 years of experience in an in‑house legal, compliance or corporate legal role.
• Experience in a similar industry or a Chinese‑owned company is a strong advantage.
• Proficiency with the MS Office Suite.
