Financial Planning Accountant

About the role

The Financial Planning Accountant provides analytical support and financial advice to senior managers within the Budget & Treasury department of the municipality. The role involves accurate forecasting, budgeting and reporting to ensure sound financial governance.

Key responsibilities

• Act as financial analyst for senior managers, delivering timely and accurate financial information.
• Prepare forecasts, budget reports and variance analyses for operating and capital budgets.
• Identify wasteful expenditure and provide evidence‑based recommendations.
• Support budget preparation, IDP alignment and Treasury guideline compliance.
• Assist with draft budget planning, trend analysis and early‑warning advice to budget owners.

Required profile

• B‑Degree or B.Com majoring in Accounting, or National Diploma in Accounting, Municipal Finance or Public Finance Management.
• Minimum 3 years experience as a Financial Analyst/Accountant, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or middle‑management role.
• Strong report‑writing and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Knowledge of Pastel Evolution (preferred).
• Computer literacy and ability to implement financial reporting systems.
