Financial Manager: Budgets & Reporting

About the role

The Finance Manager, Budgets & Reporting supports the financial operations of Conservation International’s Southern African region, with an initial focus on South Africa and Mozambique. The role is responsible for monthly budget updates, annual country programme budgets, proposal budgeting, donor financial reporting and ad‑hoc financial analysis, ensuring accurate data and compliance with donor and internal requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare internal budget templates (staff rates, cost centres, donor currency) and map them to donor formats.
• Review proposals and ensure accurate submission to the Africa Field Management Unit or Head Office.
• Update monthly budget projections for Conservation South Africa, Mozambique and the Southern Africa regional unit, meeting institutional deadlines.
• Maintain accurate revenue allocations across projects and manage employee budgeting entries.
• Assist in developing the annual budget for country programmes and the regional unit.
• Review budget‑vs‑actual reports monthly, monitor burn rate and flag risks.
• Collaborate with program managers and project leads to implement follow‑up actions and re‑classifications.
• Update transaction listings, prepare donor forecasts, and ensure strict adherence to donor guidelines.
• Support internal and external audits and maintain documentation readiness.

Required profile

• Proven experience in budgeting and financial reporting within a multi‑country or regional context.
• Ability to prepare and review budget proposals and align them with donor requirements.
• Experience monitoring budget‑vs‑actual performance and identifying financial risks.
• Familiarity with donor reporting standards and audit support processes.

Required skills
