Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all financial operations in South Africa, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legal requirements, and providing strategic financial insight to support business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the CFO/Country Director and executive team to drive performance and sustainable growth.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes, delivering accurate performance reporting.
• Oversee daily finance operations, maintaining high standards of accuracy, integrity and timeliness.
• Manage cash flow, treasury, working capital and banking relationships.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, South African Companies Act, SARS regulations and UK Group reporting requirements.
• Oversee statutory and tax obligations including VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, EMP201, EMP501, payroll governance and corporate tax.
• Collaborate with UK Group Finance to align reporting standards, controls and strategic objectives.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and key financial stakeholders.
• Lead, mentor and develop the Finance Manager and Finance & Payroll Administrator.
• Improve processes, increase automation and strengthen financial controls.

Required profile

• Professional qualification such as CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior finance leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of South African tax, payroll and statutory compliance.
• Experience with IFRS, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Experience in a group or multinational environment, preferably with exposure to UK reporting requirements.
• Proven leadership, stakeholder management and business partnering abilities.
