Financial Controller – Consumer Goods Distributor

About the role

The leading consumer‑goods distributor in South Africa is seeking a Financial Controller for its liquor division, based in Johannesburg. The role combines stock control, inventory accuracy and comprehensive financial reporting to ensure that warehouse systems and financial records are fully aligned.

Key responsibilities

• Process stock adjustments, journal entries and align inventory data between WMS and Pastel.
• Participate in monthly stock takes, audits and variance analysis; resolve discrepancies.
• Balance the trial balance to inventory valuation each month and maintain accurate stock costing.
• Manage division P&L reporting, margin analysis, rebate files and working‑capital calculations.
• Analyse gross‑profit margins, handle pricing queries and support distribution allowance claims.
• Prepare audit documentation, assist with annual budgeting and conduct balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Approve new product listings, draft SOPs, and liaise with suppliers on pricing and contract terms.

Required profile

• Matric and a degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in a stock‑focused finance role.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, leadership and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
• Experience with Pastel accounting software.
• Solid grasp of accounting software and financial reporting tools.
