Field Service Engineer – Utility‑Scale Energy Storage Systems

About the role

CATL is seeking a Field Service Engineer to ensure the safe and reliable operation of utility‑scale energy storage systems (BESS). You will work on‑site, performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting new project commissioning across a range of battery‑related equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct daily patrols, preventive maintenance, and routine checks on BESS components such as PCS, BMS, EMS, battery clusters, transformers, switchgear and fire‑suppression systems.
• Respond to equipment alarms, perform rapid on‑site troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and repairs to minimise downtime.
• Coordinate with technical teams on complex issues and support commissioning activities including installation verification, grid‑connection testing and final acceptance.
• Collect and analyse operational data, fault logs and maintenance records, preparing reports with optimisation recommendations.
• Enforce safety protocols, implement permit‑to‑work systems and act as the primary liaison for client communication and stakeholder coordination.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science or Engineering.
• Minimum three years of on‑site experience in the battery or automotive sector.
• Experience in operation and maintenance of utility‑scale energy storage systems is highly preferred.
• Understanding of battery structural principles and basic electrical knowledge.
• Strong team player, adaptable to business travel and flexible working hours, able to work efficiently under pressure.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of producing technical documentation.
• Fluent in Chinese and English.
