Feedlot Manager

About the role

The Feedlot Manager will be accountable for the overall performance, health, and efficiency of the feedlot operation. This senior position combines veterinary expertise with strong leadership to drive productivity, animal welfare, and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead herd health management, diagnose and treat conditions, and implement preventative programs.
• Oversee daily feedlot operations including feeding, cattle movement, infrastructure maintenance, and feed quality control.
• Conduct herd health assessments, maintain accurate veterinary records, and coordinate with external veterinarians.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, biosecurity, and safety standards.
• Lead, train, and develop the feedlot team, fostering a culture of accountability.
• Manage budgets, KPIs, and cost‑saving initiatives to drive profitability.
• Prepare operational reports and liaise with suppliers, senior management, and industry stakeholders.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives and industry best practices.

Required profile

• Veterinary degree (BVSc, DVM or equivalent) – strongly preferred.
• 5‑8 years of experience in feedlot management or large‑scale livestock operations.
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex operations.
• Strong financial acumen with ability to manage budgets and improve profitability.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Ability to make strategic decisions under pressure and maintain high attention to detail.
• Experience with livestock management systems and data analysis tools.
