FAIS Compliance Specialist – Risk Management

About the role

The FAIS Compliance Specialist will support the Senior Manager of Compliance and Ethics in ensuring that GEMS meets all FAIS regulatory obligations and related legislation. Based at the head office in Pretoria, the role sits within the Risk Management and Compliance division and reports directly to senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor FAIS compliance across all key individuals and representatives, communicating changes to the FSCA.
• Maintain up‑to‑date compliance records and develop policies, procedures, and manuals for the FSP.
• Compile monitoring reports, escalating compliance risks and incidents in a timely manner.
• Act as an independent reviewer to evaluate, investigate, and resolve compliance concerns.
• Identify control deficiencies, provide guidance to mitigate risks, and implement corrective action plans.
• Conduct risk and compliance awareness programmes and resolve Fit‑and‑Proper queries.
• Track adherence to compliance processes, perform audits, and report on findings.
• Maintain trend analysis to improve controls and support continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Law, Finance or Insurance, or an FSCA‑recognised qualification.
• Registered Category I Compliance Officer with the FSCA (RE 1 and RE 5).
• 5–7 years of experience in a compliance‑related role with deep knowledge of FAIS, FICA, POPIA, GCOC and PPR legislation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong negotiation abilities, and the capacity to work well in a team.
• Advanced computer literacy, diligent work ethic, and a proactive, self‑motivated attitude.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of FAIS, FICA, POPIA, GCOC and PPR regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures and manuals.
• Experience conducting compliance audits and risk assessments.
