Faculty Librarian: Health Sciences (Post Level 8)

About the role

The Faculty Librarian for Health Sciences will support teaching, learning and research within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Free State. The role provides specialised library services, information literacy instruction and advanced research support to undergraduate and postgraduate students and academic staff.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver information literacy sessions and workshops tailored to undergraduate and postgraduate curricula.
• Provide advanced research assistance, including systematic literature searches and database navigation.
• Act as liaison between the library and faculty departments to align resources with academic programmes.
• Select, evaluate and develop balanced collections that meet teaching and research priorities.
• Monitor collection usage and promote access to digital scholarship tools, databases and open‑access resources.
• Advise academic staff on resource acquisition and support scholarly communication.
• Collaborate with faculty to enhance research output and contribute to the library’s strategic goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma/B.Tech (NQF Level 7) in Library and Information Science, Information Science or a related field.
• Relevant professional experience in academic or health‑science libraries is desirable.
• South African ID or passport (for foreign nationals) and proof of qualifications.
