Extrusion Operator

About the role

The Extrusion Operator will work on a permanent basis in a manufacturing environment, operating and maintaining extrusion equipment to produce high‑quality plastic and steel products. The role is based onsite in Durban and offers market‑related salary with benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Set‑up and start‑up extrusion machines according to SOPs and supervisor instructions.
• Feed raw material into bins, silos and dosing towers as per production plans.
• Operate feeding machines, winders, cranes, grinders and Erema equipment safely.
• Perform quality sampling using turn tables and record data in logbooks.
• Conduct regular cleaning of extruder towers, suction filters and LLF filters.
• Monitor machine parameters, report faults immediately, and ensure continuous production flow.
• Execute at least one Kaizen improvement per month and update HIRA lists.
• Maintain a safe work area and adhere to shift hand‑over procedures.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification (minimum).
• 2‑5 years of experience operating heavy‑duty production line machinery in extrusion, steel or converting environments.
• Certificate or diploma in Plastic Manufacturing, Extrusion Operations, or N6 Electrical/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering (advantageous).
