External Sales Engineer

About the role

The client, a leading player in the generator and diesel industry, is seeking an External Sales Engineer to drive new business and expand market share. You will be responsible for selling power kits and a full portfolio of generator solutions to both existing and prospective customers.

Key responsibilities

• Directly sell generators, diesel services, repair/refurbishment, technical upgrades and parts.
• Visit assigned customers according to a planned calling schedule.
• Prepare budgets, estimate potential revenue and profitability per customer.
• Generate new sales leads, obtain enquiries, prepare quotations and follow through to closure.
• Submit monthly sales reports and maintain an up‑to‑date customer database.
• Gather competitor information on products, pricing and strategies.
• Support technical queries, product launches, presentations and trade‑show participation.
• Attend regular sales and project meetings.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of sales experience in generators or related diesel equipment.
• Strong knowledge of dealer networks in the generator or solar sector.
• Matric or formal electrical qualification; an electrical trade, diploma or N3 qualification is advantageous.
• Understanding of medium‑voltage installations is a plus.
• Proficient with the MS Office suite.
• Valid driver’s licence.
