Extension Educator – Family & Consumer Sciences

About the role

The University of Maryland Extension is seeking a tenure‑track Extension Educator in the Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) program. Based in Caroline County, Maryland, the role will lead the design, delivery and evaluation of interdisciplinary educational programs that promote financial wellness, community economic development, housing, and health literacy for residents across the Eastern Shore and statewide.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and assess educational programs that address financial literacy, community/economic development and housing needs.
• Conduct community needs assessments and develop research‑based curricula for youth and adult audiences.
• Establish subject‑matter expertise and lead applied research projects, publishing results to support program goals.
• Collaborate with Extension clusters, state FCS teams, local agencies, nonprofits, schools and businesses to create culturally responsive outreach.
• Deliver workshops, seminars, webinars and blended learning experiences using learner‑centered strategies.

Required profile

• Tenure‑track faculty position equivalent to Assistant Professor.
• Demonstrated experience in designing, delivering and evaluating interdisciplinary education programs.
• Proven ability to conduct applied research and publish findings.
• Strong track record of building community partnerships across public, private and nonprofit sectors.
