Experienced Conventional Miller – Precision Engineering

About the role

Our client, a well‑established precision engineering company in the Strand/Helderberg area, is seeking an experienced Conventional Miller to join their workshop team. You will work independently on conventional milling machines to produce high‑precision components from engineering drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional milling machines without supervision.
• Manufacture parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Perform face milling, slot milling, drilling, boring, pocketing, keyways, and profile machining.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds and speeds for each job.
• Accurately set up workpieces, fixtures and tooling.
• Measure and inspect components using precision instruments throughout the process.
• Troubleshoot machining and setup issues, perform modifications or re‑machining as needed.
• Maintain machines, tooling and workshop cleanliness.
• Adhere to health and safety and quality standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Conventional/Manual Miller.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of tolerances, fits and work‑holding.
• Experience working to close tolerances in a precision environment.
• Preferred background in precision engineering or manufacturing; CNC experience is a plus.
