Executive Director

About the role

The Southern African Institute of Welding is seeking a dynamic Executive Director to steer the organisation through its next phase of growth. This senior leadership position will set strategic direction, drive business development and oversee day‑to‑day operations while aligning activities with long‑term objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute corporate strategies that support sustainable growth and expansion locally and internationally.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships and revenue streams, including certification and training programmes.
• Lead marketing, branding and corporate communications, covering social media, press relations and industry events.
• Manage overall business operations, ensuring efficiency, financial sustainability and compliance with governance and legal requirements.
• Oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and implementation of financial controls.
• Drive continuous improvement, organisational risk management and performance metrics.
• Build and maintain relationships with the Board, shareholders, regulators and key industry stakeholders.
• Represent the institute at external engagements, industry forums and professional networks.
• Implement and maintain ISO management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 3834, ISO 17021/17024/17025) and ensure compliance with South African regulations.

Required profile

• Proven senior executive experience in business management, operations and financial oversight.
• Strong track record in strategic leadership, business development and stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to optimise operational efficiency and drive sustainable financial performance.
• Experience with corporate governance, compliance and risk management.

Required skills

• Implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001 management system.
• Implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001 occupational health and safety system.
• Implementation and maintenance of ISO 3834 welding quality system.
• Implementation and maintenance of ISO 17021/17024/17025 certification standards.
