Estimator (Freight & Logistics)

About the role

Unique Personnel is seeking a diligent Estimator to join its Business Development team in Durban. You will be responsible for preparing accurate freight and transport cost estimates for both import and export shipments, ensuring timely delivery to clients and supporting the overall sales process.

Key responsibilities

• Compile and deliver client and prospect estimates within required turnaround times.
• Request landside and freight charges from global agents and service providers.
• Validate that estimate charges align with client rates in CargoWise and forwarding instructions.
• Perform continuous quality checks on estimates and forward approved versions to sales or client services.
• Maintain and update client rate schedules, communicating buy and sell rates to operations.
• Prepare and submit tenders, negotiate rates with carriers and agents, and follow up on tender outcomes.
• Handle client queries related to estimates, rates, and amendments, ensuring clear communication with all parties.

Required profile

• Matric or equivalent senior certification.
• High level of computer literacy.
• Knowledge of all transport modes – air, ocean and road.
• Sound understanding of Incoterms 2010, customs tariffs and port charges.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in freight forwarding and clearing.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CargoWise freight forwarding software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data handling and reporting.
• Familiarity with Incoterms 2010 and customs tariff structures.
