Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

About the role

Our client seeks a highly motivated Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and oversee all EHS functions across the organisation. The role involves developing robust systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve the EHS Management System.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, permits, licences and company standards.
• Lead and coordinate audits, inspections, risk assessments and compliance evaluations.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses, conduct root‑cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
• Monitor safe work procedures and PPE usage.
• Oversee emergency preparedness, fire prevention, evacuation plans and drills.
• Manage environmental compliance for waste, emissions, water use, hazardous substances and pollution prevention.
• Liaise with regulators, auditors and certification bodies during inspections.
• Maintain accurate EHS records, registers, reports and legal documentation.
• Monitor contractor compliance with EHS requirements.
• Provide regular performance reports, KPIs and recommendations to management.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification such as SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, NOSA or equivalent (non‑negotiable).
• National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Safety Management or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an EHS management role within forestry, manufacturing, timber, agricultural or heavy‑industrial operations.
• Experience managing legal compliance audits and certification audits is advantageous.
