Employee Relations Specialist (12-Month Contract)

About the role

This 12-month contract position sits under the Senior Manager: Human Resources and aims to promote harmonious workplace relationships by designing, developing and implementing proactive employee relations policies, structures and procedures. It also advises on labour law and industrial relations, facilitates management-employee consultations and negotiations, and implements consequence management (grievance and misconduct).

Key responsibilities

• Institutionalise the employee relations function: put in place and communicate proactive labour relations policies, monitor their application and develop training programmes with the OD unit.
• Facilitate organisational rights agreements with unions or employee representatives, manage industrial action and support management and staff on legislation and policies.
• Represent the company at the CCMA in conciliation and arbitration matters, assist in wage negotiations and handle disciplinary matters following due process.
• Maintain an IR administration system, keep IR information up to date, produce reports on IR trends and advise on best labour relations practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 5 years in labour relations management and 3 years in the public sector.
• Extensive experience in collective bargaining, grievance handling and misconduct/consequence management.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of the Labour Relations Act and other relevant HR legislation.
• Expert knowledge of CCMA rules, processes, procedures and dispute resolution.
