Employee Relations Officer - Johannesburg

About the role

The Employee Relations Officer will provide day‑to‑day ER/HR support across depots, resolve workplace conflicts, and ensure compliance with South African labour legislation. The role acts as a liaison between management, employees, and unions, fostering a fair and harmonious work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide operational ER/IR support to depot teams.
• Manage disciplinary, grievance, incapacity and dispute resolution processes.
• Represent the company at CCMA hearings and Bargaining Council meetings.
• Participate in disciplinary hearings as HR representative or chairperson.
• Advise management on labour legislation and HR best practices.
• Build and maintain relationships with unions and employee representatives.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, HR administration and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with LRA, BCEA, EEA and assist in policy rollout.
• Compile monthly ER/HR reports and maintain disciplinary trackers.
• Contribute to Employment Equity, Skills Development and Union Committee structures.

Required profile

• Matric qualification plus a 3‑year tertiary qualification in HR Management, Industrial Relations, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration or related field (essential).
• Advanced Diploma in Labour Law is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Employee Relations Officer handling CCMA cases, arbitrations and disciplinary hearings.
• Proven experience working with unions in a high‑volume, unionised environment.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA).
• Proficient computer literacy, especially MS Office.
