Emergency Doctor

About the role

Mediclinic Paarl is recruiting one Emergency Doctor for a permanent, on-site position. The doctor provides quality and safe clinical care to patients presenting to the emergency centre by assessing, diagnosing, treating and disposing them according to best practice standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide quality, safe clinical care in the emergency centre
• Assist with teaching and coordinating clinical development programmes in the emergency centre to improve patient care
• Support the nursing staff in applying triage in the emergency centre
• Take part in quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives to ensure safe, quality patient care
• Maintain a minimum standard of emergency medical knowledge and expertise

Required profile

• Essential: MB BCh/MB ChB degree
• Desired: Dip PEC and MPhil
• Essential: completion of internship and community service years
• Desired: previous work experience after community service in an emergency centre of a private or public hospital

• Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Paediatric Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support

• Knowledge of the Charter of the Public and Private Health Sectors and the Patients' Rights Charter
• Private healthcare industry knowledge
• Mental Health Care Act No. 17 of 2002 and Children's Amendment Act No. 41 of 2007
