Electronic Technician

About the role

Abantu Staffing Solutions is recruiting an Electronic Technician in Port Elizabeth on a 12-month renewable contract. The role covers routine maintenance, fault finding, installation and commissioning of automation equipment, and in-house calibration of electronic instruments.

Key responsibilities

• Routine maintenance of electronic equipment and automation systems (PCs, PLCs and electronic devices) according to the preventative maintenance programme
• Fault finding and repair of equipment after a breakdown, keeping downtime to a minimum
• Assist in compiling design specifications for new equipment and systems
• Install and commission new equipment and systems
• In-house calibration of electronic equipment and instruments
• Decommission and commission equipment for external calibration
• Document control in line with the Quality Management System
• Help develop new documentation on facility operation and maintenance procedures and schematics

Required profile

• Affirmative action South African citizen
• Available for a 12-month renewable contract
• Grade 12 plus trade test and minimum N6 qualification
• At least 5 years of experience in the listed areas
• Willing to work standby, overtime and/or weekends as required
• Willing to travel overseas for periods up to 3 months

Required skills

• Design, development and installation of small automation systems
• SCADA systems, application, setup and programming (preferably Adroit)
• Siemens PLC setup and programming (preferably Wonderware)
• PLC programming with RS Logix or RS Logix 5000
• EPLAN or similar software for wiring diagrams
• Industrial communication networks (Ethernet, RS232, Profibus, AK)
• Calibration of sensitive equipment such as load cells, temperature controllers and data loggers
• Some exposure to robotics
