Distribution Centre Manager – Bloemfontein

About the role

OVK is seeking a Distribution Centre Manager to take full responsibility for the efficient day‑to‑day management of its Bloemfontein distribution centre. The role focuses on service delivery, inventory control, route execution, people and fleet management, cost control and loss limitation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the distribution centre ensuring safety, efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.
• Plan and schedule delivery routes, monitor compliance with cut‑off times and service levels.
• Liaise continuously with group buyers and internal stakeholders on inventory needs, availability and priorities.
• Oversee purchases within approved policies, budgets and authorisations.
• Apply operational, inventory, financial and security controls and report any deviations.
• Supervise staff and drivers, handling performance, discipline, training, shift planning and capacity planning.
• Manage the vehicle fleet, including licensing, maintenance, fuel consumption and inspections.
• Coordinate inventory counts, investigate discrepancies and ensure accurate stock records.
• Maintain cleanliness, order and safe stacking in the warehouse and yard.
• Handle returns, claims and follow‑up actions to minimise losses, damage and obsolete stock.

Required profile

• Grade 12; relevant qualification in logistics, supply chain, warehouse management or related field is strongly recommended.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a distribution centre, warehouse or logistics environment.
• At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Proven experience in route planning, inventory control, personnel and fleet management.
• Experience in agricultural, retail or FMCG distribution is an advantage.
• Knowledge of purchasing processes, budgeting, occupational health & safety and transport requirements is desirable.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work outside normal hours when required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AS400.
• Experience using inventory or warehouse management systems.
