Director of Security and Safety (Pre-opening)

About the role

The Cape Town EDITION Hotel is seeking a Director of Security and Safety to lead all security, loss prevention, and safety operations during its pre‑opening phase. This senior position is responsible for protecting guests, employees, and property while ensuring compliance with legal and corporate standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily security and loss‑prevention operations across the entire property and parking areas.
• Develop, implement, and maintain emergency and safety procedures.
• Conduct investigations of property losses and coordinate disposition with management.
• Deploy and supervise security staff, conduct regular patrols, and maintain required logs and certifications.
• Handle guest and employee complaints, resolve disputes, and ensure a safe environment.
• Identify hazards, recommend risk‑mitigation actions, and monitor compliance with safety codes.
• Participate in pre‑ and post‑event meetings to align security needs with hotel operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least 4 years of security/loss‑prevention experience, OR a 2‑year degree in Criminal Justice (or related field) with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Proven ability to lead and develop security teams.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations, emergency response, and risk management.
• Excellent communication and conflict‑resolution skills.
