Director of Institutional Advancement (5‑Year Renewable Contract)

About the role

The University of the Western Cape seeks a dynamic leader to head its Institutional Advancement function. Reporting to the Vice‑Chancellor, the Director will shape and execute a comprehensive strategy that drives philanthropic income, enhances brand visibility, and deepens stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an integrated advancement plan covering fundraising, alumni relations, marketing, communications, and corporate partnerships.
• Overhaul donor strategy to diversify funding streams, including major gifts, endowments, corporate, and foundation support.
• Lead major‑gift development, capital campaigns, and endowment growth initiatives.
• Elevate the university’s global brand through strategic marketing, media engagement, and communications.
• Build and maintain high‑performance teams and foster results‑driven culture.
• Establish and nurture strategic relationships with alumni, corporations, foundations, and government bodies.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in institutional advancement, fundraising, or related fields within higher education.
• Demonstrated success in achieving ambitious fundraising targets and managing large‑scale campaigns.
• Strong public presence and ability to represent the university externally.
• Strategic thinker with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
