Diesel Mechanic – Farming, Forestry & Workshop (Live‑in)

About the role

This live‑in position is based in Greytown and focuses on the full maintenance, repair and servicing of farm and forestry vehicles, equipment and machinery. The role also includes health‑and‑safety inspections and general workshop duties within a rural agricultural environment.

Key responsibilities

• Repair, service and maintain tractors, bulldozers, loggers, bakkies and other farm vehicles.
• Service chainsaws (Husqvarna, Stihl) and water pumps used for firefighting.
• Conduct routine health‑and‑safety inspections on all machinery.
• Perform general workshop tasks, maintain the premises and complete administration such as job cards and service registers.
• Control workshop stock, issue fuel and lubricants, and manage store inventory.
• Respond to on‑farm breakdowns, emergency call‑outs and standby duties every second weekend.
• Carry out hydraulic pipe repairs, grinding, welding and other fabrication work as required.

Required profile

• Trade‑tested qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Auto‑Electrical disciplines.
• Minimum three years of proven experience as a diesel mechanic in a farm, forestry or agricultural workshop.
• Practical experience with tractors, loggers, bulldozers, bakkies and chainsaw repair.
• Ability to perform health‑and‑safety inspections and adhere to safety standards.
