DevOps Engineer

About the role

Equal Experts is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join its Operability team in South Africa. The role focuses on ensuring that software runs reliably in production, collaborating closely with development teams and applying modern agile and DevOps practices.

Key responsibilities

• Influence, collaborate and manage expectations with stakeholders and the delivery team.
• Design and build solutions that consider the customer’s ability to support and maintain the software.
• Mentor client team members and provide technical leadership.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Apply strong problem‑solving skills and adapt to changing environments.
• Work in agile teams using continuous integration, continuous deployment and fast feedback loops.

Required profile

• Comfortable with pair or mob programming and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to write simple services with automated tests.
• Strong automation experience, including unit testing and test‑automation tools.
• Deliver small increments continuously and favour short feedback cycles.
• Understand branching strategies and know when they become overly complex.

Required skills

• CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions.
• Operating systems: Linux, Windows command line.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud (functions, containers, VMs).
• Infrastructure as code: Terraform, CloudFormation, Azure ARM, Pulumi.
• Telemetry and monitoring tools: Elastic, Grafana, Datadog.
• Automation and testing frameworks.
