Designated Environmental Officer (DEO) – Construction Projects

About the role

BCB Solutions is seeking a qualified Designated Environmental Officer (DEO) to join its team for high‑value road construction and routine road maintenance projects across South Africa. The role involves ensuring environmental compliance on site and supporting the delivery of sustainable infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Identify environmental impacts and aspects associated with daily construction activities.
• Prepare implementation, progress, and status reports.
• Assist in the direct implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and ensure it is understood by all personnel and contractors.
• Conduct inspections, audits, and follow‑up corrective actions.
• Perform environmental risk assessments and evaluate method statements.
• Submit regular written reports to the project engineer.
• Deliver environmental awareness training and presentations.
• Support health and safety initiatives and monitor environmental performance.
• Liaise with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment to obtain permits and conduct ad‑hoc audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Health and Environmental Management (NQF Level 7) or higher.
• Active registration as an Environmental Officer with SACNASP.
• Experience on SANRAL road construction or routine road maintenance projects, with at least three projects valued at R80 million + (incl. VAT).
• Knowledge of industrial construction processes, waste, effluent, and airborne emissions management.
