Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (TRC)

About the role

The Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (TRC) will lead high‑profile prosecution matters related to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, overseeing complex litigation and strategic management within the National Prosecuting Authority.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of TRC cases, including investigation, prosecution and court representation at all judicial levels.
• Lead, train and mentor advocates, prosecutors and investigators handling TRC matters.
• Draft legal documents, charge sheets, indictments and policy papers related to TRC investigations.
• Analyse TRC recommendations, conduct research and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including NGOs, universities and other government departments, to coordinate TRC‑related activities.

Required profile

• LLB with at least ten (10) years post‑qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
• Demonstrated competence in strategic and operational management, independent decision‑making and professional accountability.
• Admission as an Attorney or Advocate is an advantage.
• Experience with TRC legislation or related matters is desirable.
• Valid driver’s licence and ability to work under pressure, including long hours.
