Deputy Chief of Police: Specialised Policing

About the role

The City of Tshwane is recruiting a Deputy Chief of Police for its Specialised Policing service, based at the Tshwane Metro Police Department head office in Pretoria West. The appointment is permanent, subject to an employment contract, performance agreement and disclosure of financial interests. The scale is R1 349 976 to R1 874 976 per annum, with an estimated package of R1 890 494 to R2 558 721.

Key responsibilities

• Exercise control over the specialised policing service to keep it impartial, accountable, transparent and efficient, within the legislated context, national standards and the Chief of Police's directives.
• Be accountable for tactical policing operations, road policing, by-law policing, crime prevention and protection services.

Required profile

• Appropriate career-related degree or QCTO (NQF Level 7) qualification.
• Registered as a Traffic Officer under the National Road Traffic Act, 1996.
• Appointed as a member of a municipal police service under the South African Police Service Act, 1995.
• Compliance with the Municipal Regulations on Minimum Competency Levels (Government Notice R493).
• Ten years' relevant experience, including five years at brigadier level.
• No criminal record or pending cases, no entry on the register for sexual and child offenders, and willingness to undergo vetting and a medical and psychometric assessment.
• Proficient in English and willing to take the Oath of Office.

Required skills

• Valid Code B driving licence.
• Pass firearm proficiency test.
• Competencies in strategic direction, leadership, business and people management, programme and project management, financial management, change and governance leadership, and core competencies such as communication, planning and organisation, and working under pressure.
