Database Engineer – Century City

About the role

WNS Global Services, a global Business Process Management (BPM) provider, is hiring a Database Engineer in its Century City office in Cape Town. You will lead a team of technical professionals supporting all areas of the enterprise so that all databases run at optimal performance, while designing database structures and tables for dynamic reporting and implementing industry-wide security standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of technical professionals and train and mentor junior team members on process and technology
• Design new databases, data models and cubes based on company needs, storage needs and user volume
• Write and maintain database programs and support scripts, and write new programs to increase data storage capacity
• Monitor databases and related systems continuously to ensure high functionality
• Troubleshoot and debug database code and scripts, and review daily, weekly and monthly reports to spot problems
• Consult on IT strategy and architecture from technical and business perspectives, and support licensing, risk management and compliance

Required profile

• Matric/Grade 12 certificate
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, with at least 5 years of previous experience in database development (a master's degree can substitute for work experience)
• 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server or a related RDBMS
• Strong communication, attention to detail, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills
• Able to work under pressure, independently and as part of a team

Required skills

• Complex coding with SQL, Python, C# and Java
• T-SQL and good understanding of Microsoft Reporting Services (SSRS) and SSIS
• ETL concepts and exposure to ETL tools
• Database architecture and scripting tools
• Agile methodologies such as Kanban, Lean and Scrum
