Data Architect Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a senior Data Architect Engineer to design, build, and operationalise data pipelines and stores across multiple application platforms. The role focuses on delivering secure, high‑performance data solutions that enable downstream analytics and business use cases, particularly within the insurance and financial services sector.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain end‑to‑end data architecture aligned with enterprise standards and governance.
• Design, build, and monitor data pipelines using AWS services such as S3, Glue, Redshift, and Lake Formation.
• Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including semantic models in dbt, LookML, or AtScale.
• Implement master data management rules for customer data consolidation and survivorship.
• Build automated data quality and validation frameworks using tools like Monte Carlo, Soda, and Great Expectations.
• Lead stakeholder workshops to resolve data definitions and translate outcomes into production code.
• Ensure compliance with POPIA data classification and privacy‑by‑design principles.

Required profile

• 7‑8+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture or analytics engineering.
• Strong background in financial services, preferably insurance.
• Proven ability to deliver production‑ready code, not just designs.
• Excellent facilitation and communication skills for cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Expert‑level SQL for complex data transformations.
• Hands‑on experience with dbt, LookML, or AtScale for semantic modelling.
• Proficiency with AWS services: S3, Glue, Redshift, Lake Formation.
• Experience with data observability tools such as Monte Carlo, Soda, Great Expectations.
• Knowledge of master data management, data quality, and data integrity concepts.
