Cybersecurity Intern (3-month WIL)

About the role

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat is seeking a motivated Cybersecurity Intern for a three‑month work‑integrated learning (WIL) placement. The intern will support regional cybersecurity initiatives, policy development, and capacity‑building activities across SADC member states.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in facilitating SADC Cyber Drills and SR‑CIRT Task Force meetings.
• Support the drafting and validation of the SADC Cybersecurity Model Law, its implementation schedule and guidelines.
• Help deliver capacity‑building programmes for member states on Data Protection, Cyber Crime, and E‑Transaction/E‑Commerce model laws.
• Collaborate with AfricaCERT, FIRST and the ITU on regional cybersecurity projects.
• Prepare draft letters, memos, agendas, reports, concept notes, project proposals and presentations.
• Participate in regional, continental and international cybersecurity events and drills.
• Contribute to the development of the SADC Model Cybersecurity Strategy.
• Analyse enforcement gaps in member states using the Global Cybersecurity Index.

Required profile

• Good IT skills and solid knowledge of computers and standard application packages.
• Experience participating in youth cyber hackathons.
• Ability to conduct research, analyse data and synthesise information.
• Strong analytical, writing and interpersonal abilities.
• Effective oral presentation, report writing and workshop facilitation skills.
• Excellent organisational, time‑management and planning capabilities.
• Experience managing ICT projects.
