Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

The Cyber Security Engineer will join Westech’s Johannesburg team to design, implement and maintain security controls that protect client applications, networks and information systems. This full‑time, on‑site position works across diverse industries, ensuring robust protection against emerging threats.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain security frameworks for client environments.
• Perform vulnerability assessments, including scanning, analysis, prioritisation and remediation planning.
• Monitor security events, investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with internal teams and client stakeholders to develop and enforce security policies and support compliance initiatives.
• Ensure systems are configured according to best practices and relevant standards.
• Continuously improve security architectures and document procedures.
• Stay up‑to‑date with the latest threats, technologies and industry regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of hands‑on cybersecurity experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISSP are advantageous.
• Strong communication skills to interact with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work on‑site with multiple client projects simultaneously.

Required skills

• Application security, secure development practices and code review.
• Network security, firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS and secure network architecture.
• Vulnerability assessment tools and remediation planning.
• Knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, PCI DSS.
• Experience with SIEM, endpoint protection and other security tools.
