Customs Supervisor

About the role

The Customs Supervisor will lead the customs clearance, inspection and documentation activities at the Durban port, ensuring efficient and compliant processing of diverse cargo types while maintaining high customer service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of customs personnel, allocate workloads, set KPIs and conduct performance reviews.
• Oversee accurate customs declarations for FCL, LCL, reefer, dangerous goods, machinery and other specialised cargo.
• Coordinate with customs authorities, terminals, warehouses and overseas teams to resolve delays and minimise demurrage.
• Maintain HS classification, tariff codes and monitor regulatory updates.
• Handle complex inspections, valuation, origin verification and provide technical guidance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in customs clearance and freight forwarding.
• Demonstrated experience managing or supervising customs teams.
• Strong knowledge of HS classification, customs valuation and tariff schedules.
• Experience dealing directly with customs and regulatory authorities.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple urgent clearance matters.
