Credit Controller (Service Charge Specialist)

About the role

The Credit Controller (Service Charge Specialist) will manage the end‑to‑end recovery of service charge and ancillary arrears for a fast‑growing block and estate management business. Working remotely from South Africa, you will support the financial health of a residential portfolio while ensuring compliance with UK legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively chase overdue service charges and ancillary income via phone, email and formal letters.
• Maintain an accurate sales ledger, allocate receipts correctly and reconcile accounts regularly.
• Monitor aged debt reports and provide weekly briefings on high‑risk accounts to the Financial Controller.
• Ensure statutory demands include required Section 21B, Section 47/48, and Building Safety Act 2022 protections.
• Liaise with Property Managers to meet Section 20 consultation requirements before pursuing major‑works arrears.
• Audit the ledger to avoid breaches of the 18‑month rule under Section 20B.
• Act as first point of contact for billing disputes and investigate reasonableness claims under Section 19 (LTA 1985).

Required profile

• Experience in residential debt recovery or credit control, preferably within property or estate management.
• Strong understanding of UK leasehold legislation (Section 21B, 20, 20B, 19, Building Safety Act).
• Excellent communication skills with a professional and empathetic approach.
• Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records.
