Controller - Freight & Logistics

About the role

The company, a leading international freight and logistics organisation, is looking for an experienced Controller to join its Johannesburg operations team. The role focuses on coordinating air, road and ocean freight shipments, managing customer and subcontractor relationships, and ensuring compliance with South African customs and legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate airfreight, road freight, ocean freight, import and export shipments.
• Provide daily shipment updates to customers and prepare status reports.
• Prepare accurate cost estimates and negotiate rates with subcontractors.
• Maintain shipment files in the Transport Management System and ensure all documentation is complete.
• Process customs entries, certificates of origin, EUR1, SADC documents and other required paperwork.
• Monitor shipments, resolve issues proactively, and oversee stuffing, crating and destuffing activities.
• Capture sales and cost accruals, process invoices on time and keep commercial controls on all records.

Required profile

• Customer‑focused freight professional with solid experience across air, road, import and export operations.
• Highly organised and detail‑oriented, able to handle multiple shipments and stakeholders simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of South African customs regulations and transport legislation.
• Excellent communication skills for liaising with customers, subcontractors and internal teams.
