Control Instructor – Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering

About the role

The University of Pretoria seeks a Control Instructor to support the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. The successful candidate will deliver theoretical and practical instruction to undergraduate students, mentor final‑year projects, and ensure the smooth operation of laboratory facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and supervise practical sessions for Electronic and Computer Engineering courses.
• Assess student performance in labs, projects and practical examinations.
• Maintain and upgrade computer‑based laboratory equipment, networking hardware and peripherals.
• Order and manage development kits, software tools and other instructional resources.
• Plan and coordinate practical demonstration events, such as the annual Robot Race Day.
• Maintain the Cisco Networking Academy certification and ensure curriculum alignment with industry standards.
• Oversee laboratory safety protocols, asset inventory, and the Impro access‑control system.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering degree (Electrical, Electronic, Computer or related field) at least at the Honours level.
• Experience in teaching or supervising engineering practicals at the tertiary level.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor final‑year projects and guide students in hands‑on learning.
• Familiarity with laboratory management, equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
