Contracts Specialist – Renewable Energy Projects

About the role

The Contracts Specialist will report to the Legal Manager and work across business, technical, execution, financing and management teams to support TotalEnergies Renewables’ growth and profitability. The role involves managing the contract workstream for a portfolio of wind, solar and energy storage projects, ensuring compliance with HSE, budget, schedule and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development team during the bidding phase by preparing termsheets and related documentation for EPC and O&M contractors.
• Negotiate and finalize contracts with awarded contractors, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
• Lead all contractual aspects of project execution, including risk assessment and management of PPAs, EPC, O&M and other project agreements.
• Respond to correspondence from partners, contractors, advisors and lenders to protect the company’s interests.
• Monitor project progress against contract schedules and ensure all parties adhere to agreed timelines.
• Interface with senior management, finance and legal teams to meet overall project deliverables.
• Establish procedures for contract award, administration and invoice verification in collaboration with the Owner’s Engineer.
• Oversee registration documents, certifications, construction permits, NOCs and ensure timely renewals.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience on large wind, PV or energy storage projects, preferably within South Africa’s REIPPPP.
• Proven experience interacting with ESKOM on self‑built projects is a strong preference.
• Professional certification in contracts management is recommended.
• Ability to understand and analyse engineering, cost control, planning and construction matters to provide effective contractual support.
• Collaborative, solutions‑oriented approach with strong communication skills.
• South African citizenship preferred, with additional preference for previously disadvantaged individuals.
