Container Depot Controller – Durban

About the role

Our client is seeking a Container Depot Controller to manage diesel fueling, container loading and yard operations at their Durban depot. The role involves coordinating drivers, trucks and containers to ensure smooth dispatch and compliance with safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Fill up all trucks that require diesel and ensure diesel tags are returned to the depot.
• Verify drivers hand in completed inspection sheets when requesting tags and seals.
• Load the correct container onto the correct truck and hook up the proper trailer combination before dispatch.
• Weigh axles of heavy cargoes, 8‑tonners and other vehicles before departure.
• Conduct daily stock counts of empty containers and tankers (Mon‑Sat) and full container counts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
• Stack empty containers for Durban together and those for JHB together.
• Communicate with the transport supervisor to schedule bulk orders and ensure proper blocking and stacking.
• Maintain a neat depot and arrange housekeeping with the maintenance department as needed.

Required profile

• Own transport and a valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a container environment.
• Willingness to work shifts, overtime and weekends (day and night rotations).
• No criminal record.
• Ability to work outdoors, interacting with drivers, trucks and containers.
