Construction Audit Specialist (Remote)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Construction Audit Specialist based in South Africa to support our US‑based clients. The role involves planning, executing and finalising audit engagements for construction, engineering and infrastructure firms, working remotely with international teams.

Key responsibilities

• Perform financial statement audits for construction and engineering clients.
• Review and test construction‑specific accounting processes, including job costing, work‑in‑progress (WIP) reporting, percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, contract and change‑order accounting, project budgeting and forecasting.
• Evaluate internal controls and identify operational and financial risks.
• Analyse project profitability, cost allocations and contract compliance.
• Conduct substantive testing, walkthroughs and audit procedures.
• Prepare audit workpapers and supporting documentation in line with firm methodologies.
• Assist in drafting financial statements and audit reports.
• Identify audit findings and provide practical recommendations to management.
• Communicate effectively with US‑based clients and engagement teams.
• Ensure audit engagements are completed within budget and deadlines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Auditing, Finance or a related field; SAICA articles completed preferred.
• 3–5 years of external audit experience, specifically auditing construction, engineering, infrastructure, EPC, real‑estate development or contractor businesses.
• Experience with US audit clients and familiarity with US GAAP and GAAS is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with audit software and work‑paper management systems.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting, WIP schedules, job cost reporting and revenue recognition under long‑term contracts.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
