Commercial Manager - Client Relationship Management

About the role

Marsh South Africa is looking for a Commercial Manager to join its management team at the Cape Town office. The role maintains and grows personal small-scale relationships and a small book of business, contributes to personal or team sales targets and oversees the portfolio of minor accounts held by a small team of junior sales professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Coach sales professionals on account management and expansion, intervening when necessary to protect at-risk team accounts.
• Analyse research to understand personal accounts, business needs and the team portfolio.
• Attend presentations or sales meetings for priority or at-risk accounts to develop team capability.
• Identify expansion opportunities using knowledge of products, market trends and account standing.
• Define the strategy for custom solutions for the team's mid-market or small geography portfolio, including sales targets, compensation and pricing.
• Act as a coach for the team, supporting professional development and critical account initiatives.
• Attend industry events, conferences and client functions to build a professional network.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in sales or operations, especially with an insurance background.
• FAIS accredited in commercial lines.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Team player, self-motivated and result-oriented.

Required skills

• MS Office proficiency.
• Sound knowledge of audit methods and internal control concepts, with the ability to assess business and technology risks.
• Strong communication, presentation and training skills.
• Comfortable working with technology solutions and AI tools.
