Clinical Pharmacist – Hospital Pharmacy

About the role

Mediclinic is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to lead patient‑oriented pharmaceutical care within its hospital network. The role focuses on ensuring the safe, effective and appropriate use of medicines while supporting multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to in‑patient wards.
• Initiate, implement and monitor an Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme to optimise antimicrobial use.
• Supply up‑to‑date information on pharmaceutical utilisation, trends and medication strategies to clinical staff.
• Identify and mitigate pharmaceutical risks, supporting the hospital’s risk‑management framework.
• Ensure accurate dispensing of medicines where applicable.

Required profile

• MPharm or equivalent postgraduate pharmacy qualification.
• Minimum two years’ experience as a Ward or Clinical Pharmacist.
• Additional training in Antimicrobial Stewardship or Infection Prevention and Control is desirable.
• Experience managing an Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme is a plus.

Required skills

• Knowledge of antimicrobial stewardship processes and procedures.
• Familiarity with pharmacy legislation (e.g., Pharmacy Act, Good Pharmacy Practice, Medicine Control Act).
• Ability to develop pharmaceutical guidelines, protocols and patient treatment plans.
• Proficiency with pharmacy information systems such as UNISOLV and AS400.
• Competent use of Microsoft Office applications.
