Claims Advisory Specialist

About the role

Marsh is looking for a Claims Advisory Specialist to join its Claims Operations team in Durban. The role is hybrid, with at least three days per week spent in the office. The specialist independently manages client claims: receiving and reviewing submissions, verifying coverage, notifying insurers and stakeholders, tracking progress through each stage and overseeing settlement, payment and reporting until claim closure.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyse incoming documentation, identify relevant policies and coverages, and request clarifications
• Enter and update claims information in claims systems and notify insurers and stakeholders
• Liaise with clients, insurers, attorneys and third parties to give status updates and resolve queries
• Investigate liability claims, validate claims against policy terms and negotiate settlements within agreed authority limits
• Prepare settlement documentation, monitor insurer funds and payment requisitions, and appoint loss adjusters or service providers when authorised
• Maintain accurate claims records, generate and distribute claims reports, and follow up on outstanding receivables
• Manage escalated claims, coordinate with attorneys, insurers and TPAs, and assist in resolving disputes with non-paying insurers
• Take part in internal and external audits and suggest process improvements

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification required
• Diploma or university degree preferred, or equivalent experience
• A legal degree or diploma is advantageous
• At least 5 years of claims handling experience
• Corporate claims experience and liability claims experience are beneficial
• Experience in a client-facing role

Required skills

• Knowledge of self-insurance, aggregate, reinsurance and captive arrangements
• Ability to manage complex claims and multiple stakeholders
• Excellent decision-making skills
