Civil Engineer – Roads & Highways

About the role

We are seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Roads and Highways division in Cape Town. The role involves delivering design, drafting, and technical support for road infrastructure projects, while collaborating closely with clients and municipal authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and model road and geometric layouts from concept through detailed construction drawings.
• Supervise small teams of technicians, students, draughtsmen, and graduates.
• Maintain drawing standards, provide construction supervision, and ensure excellent client service.
• Prepare tender documents, bills of quantities, cost estimates, and final bid packages.
• Produce project reports, apply relevant codes of practice, and follow SMEC quality procedures.
• Support senior engineers on project management tasks and lead when required.
• Engage with clients and municipal line departments to capture requirements and develop specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering (or higher) from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 3 years of practical civil engineering experience.
• Understanding of local infrastructure technologies and markets.
• Basic project management knowledge and ability to meet quality and timeline targets.

Required skills

• Proficiency in civil design software such as Bentley MicroStation.
• Experience with Open Roads Design Software.
• Strong skills in AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Familiarity with project management software.
