Chief Resident Engineer (Registered)

About the role

The Chief Resident Engineer (Registered) will lead the on‑site supervision and contract administration of large‑diameter welded steel pipeline projects in South Africa. Based in Thabazimbi or Lephalale, the role requires extensive experience in pipeline construction, quality control and stakeholder coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and administer contracts, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and financial terms.
• Lead the site supervision team, monitoring contractor programmes, progress and expenditure.
• Implement the Engineer’s quality monitoring plan and oversee the contractor’s quality control procedures.
• Conduct site audits, inspections, testing, and approve or reject work as required.
• Measure, certify and forecast cash‑flow for completed works.
• Organise regular technical meetings with contractors, the employer and the engineer, recording minutes and actions.
• Issue site instructions, variation orders and drawings, and compile as‑built reports.
• Assist the Engineer in preparing and adjudicating claims, extensions of time and variation orders.

Required profile

• ECSA‑registered Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist Engineer with 13–18 years of relevant experience.
• SACPCMP qualification is advantageous.
• Proven experience in contract administration, construction monitoring and site supervision of large‑diameter welded steel pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of civil/structural codes, standards and construction procedures.
• Valid driver’s licence, own vehicle and willingness to travel.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
