Chemical Buyer – Procurement Specialist

About the role

Our client, a leading chemical manufacturer in Durban, KwaZulu‑Natal, is seeking a Chemical Buyer to manage the procurement of chemicals and liquids. The role involves close collaboration with production, quality assurance and logistics teams to ensure timely and cost‑effective supply of raw materials.

Key responsibilities

• Determine buying and procurement requirements across the organisation.
• Establish supplier partnerships, negotiate prices, volumes and lead times.
• Work with Production and QA to develop packaging that enhances product appeal.
• Handle requisitions, keep Production informed of order progress and monitor stock levels.
• Organise transportation, track shipments and ensure on‑time delivery.
• Maintain accurate, audit‑ready documentation in line with ISO standards.
• Create and process orders for branches and upload supplier documents and price lists.
• Source in accordance with Procurement Guidelines and SOPs.
• Resolve discrepancies in invoicing, quantities and pricing.
• Promote ethical conduct in all stakeholder interactions.

Required profile

• Certificate/Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics or related field (advantageous).
• Minimum 3 years experience as a buyer in chemicals or liquids.
• Experience in import logistics and international trade is advantageous.

Required skills

• Strong Excel proficiency.
• Experience with SAGE X3 ERP system.
