Business Development Manager – Marketplace

About the role

Takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive marketplace growth from its Cape Town office. You will be responsible for acquiring high‑quality third‑party sellers and expanding the platform’s product range.

Key responsibilities

• Achieve marketplace sales targets by identifying and onboarding strategic third‑party sellers.
• Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline focused on key sellers.
• Design and execute seller acquisition strategies, including needs analysis and lead generation.
• Travel across South Africa on a monthly basis to meet prospective sellers.
• Collaborate with Brand, Category, and Sales & Account managers to align sourcing initiatives.
• Organise and host expos, events and webinars to attract new sellers.
• Provide feedback on sourcing strategies to Brand Managers and Team Leaders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (or 7 + years of sales experience if no degree).
• 3‑5 years of solution‑sales experience, preferably in retail or software solutions.
• Proven track record of business development or client acquisition.
• Strong negotiation, communication and presentation skills, with experience presenting to senior executives.
• Ability to manage multiple opportunities, prioritize tasks and adapt to change.
• Own a car for regular travel.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
