Business Development Manager

About the role

The Business Development Manager will own export sales of FMCG and commodities into key international markets, turning market insight into profitable trade. Based in Durban, the role blends commercial strategy with hands‑on operational execution of export deals.

Key responsibilities

• Set and pursue annual profit budgets approved by the Managing Director.
• Prospect target markets, convert opportunities into revenue‑generating export contracts.
• Negotiate and close trade deals using professional sales techniques.
• Maintain high service levels through ongoing client engagement and strategic relationship building.
• Ensure regulatory compliance across multiple countries and manage trade risk from pricing to fulfilment.

Required profile

• Proven export trade and business development experience in FMCG or commodities.
• Background working with African or Indian Ocean Island markets is a strong advantage.
• Strong understanding of South African FMCG products and perishable produce.
• Numerical and financial acumen with confidence interpreting figures.
• Matric plus a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance or a related field.

What we offer

• Market‑related base salary (R50,000 – R60,000 per month) dependent on experience.
• Performance‑based commission aligned to achievement of agreed budgets.
• On‑site role with regular international travel (approximately every six weeks).
